Description

Enjoy a day excursion to Delphi, a place of unique beauty and historical importance that blends harmonically with the superb landscape, a sanctuary that was considered to be the “omphalos” or in other worlds the “navel of the world” in ancient Greece.

During this tour, you will be able to combine culture, history and nature as you visit one of the most emblematic places of both ancient and modern Greece. You will first pass by the Arachova village, known as the winter Myconos of Greece, you will then visit the monastery of Osios Loukas, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you will finally explore the sanctuary of Delphi with some of the most famous archaeological sites: the temple of Apollo, the sanctuary of Athena and the Castalian Spring. According to the myth, Delphi sanctuary was the meeting point of two eagles released by Zeus, one to the East and one in the West. Situated in a magnificent natural setting at the Mt. Parnassus, Delphi was considered the center of the earth and had a tremendous influence and fame that spread through the whole of then known world. This place, included in the Unesco World Heritage list, was the religious center and also the symbol of unity for the ancient Greeks. This is where pilgrims from all over the world used to come in order to get an oracle form the priestess of Apollo, the famous Pythia. In fact, Delphi could be considered the Google of Ancient world by today’s standards, the only place where visitors would get answers to any of their questions
